Sion Sing
Fr. Paul Ward

Sion sing of ancient victories,

Laud the everlasting love,

Glorify the wisdom of the old paths and roads,

Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever.

The first parent fell in win

In wrathful power rose the serpent above him,

And what was not lost?

Life and grace, wisdom and knowledge, health and peace and discipline.

The Word, the Yes, came first as a promise,

For mercy moved the heart and Spirit,

The Father mandated it be fulfilled,

Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever.

The Word was with God, and God was with us,

The Father refrained nothing from man,

We eat the Word with our own mouth,

Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever.

Once for all he spilled his blood,

The Son refrained nothing from us.

We learned as he learned, and martyrs bled,

Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever.

But how can man eat God, by which

The ocean fits in the bucket?

Hunger and eat, thirst and drink, love and embrace,

Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever.

Where did the bread go, asks the fearful liar,

For if the Word can make the world,

Can’t it also be in it?

Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever.

Be not afraid, therefore, to eat your God,

For the Word calls and gives life to the Church,

Makes virgins, martyrs, doctors, confessors,

O Sion, praise and exalt the Eucharist forever!

Amen. Fiat.
