Cor meum
Fr. Paul Ward

Cor meum!

What do I want?

To teach, to preach, to consecrate.

Is that what I want?

What do I want?

I want to do something great.

I want to save all men.

I want to bring the whole, entire Church forth

on its long road,

a road of blood and martyrs,

a road of doves and virgins,

a road of doctrine and scholars,

a road of voices and apostles.

Anything less will simply not leave me happy.

Kardía emou!

What is outside me is Providence’s realm, not mine.

Yet all that I want is outside me.

It’s time to look for fulfillment

by contemplating the man within.

Let me look within myself,

for within the secret of man’s soul dwells truth.

The external priest or the internal priest.

That’s my decision.

The greatness of a man is not in his having or showing.

The greatness of a man is within him,

where God alone sees,

and there all men may avail of it.

Humility is it’s name; humility is truth.

It is salvation and power,

martyrdom and virginity of the soul,

scholarship and apostolate of the soul.

And the soul is eternal, the body perishes.

I want to be the eternal man.
